Robert Louis Cloutier, M.D.'95, M.C.R.

Dr. Cloutier completed his Emergency Medicine Residency at the Medical College of Pennsylvania in 1998. He then completed a Pediatric Emergency Medicine (PEM) fellowship at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and became their first Emergency Medicine trained graduate.

Since 2001, Dr. Cloutier has been a faculty member at Oregon Health and Science University. His educational focus has been on the emergency care of children and medical school admissions. He has served as the chair of the Pediatric Emergency Medicine interest group for the Society of Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM), as part of the SAEM Program Committee he authored didactic sessions, helped create consensus conferences and is a member of the Editorial board of the journal Academic Emergency Medicine. In addition, he has served as a content expert on the American Board of Pediatrics Sub board for PEM to create the specialty's certifying exam. He is an editor of a major textbook, Harwood and Nuss's Clinical Practice of Emergency Medicine 6th and 7th Editions. He has been voted one of Portland Monthly's "Top Docs" 5 times.

He has served his department as an Assistant Program Director for the EM Residency, Simulation Director and Pediatric EM Fellowship Director. He received his Masters of Clinical Research in 2012 and team taught one of the degree's core courses for 5 years.

In addition, Dr. Cloutier has served as the OHSU Assistant Dean for Admissions since 2017. Prior to 2017, he had served as an admissions committee member since 2004 and was committee chair in 2016. He has appreciably enhanced diversity at OHSU with approximately 45% of the school coming from lower socioeconomic strata; and has worked closely with the Associate Dean for Native Health to increase the presence of American Indian and Alaska Natives in the medical school. OHSU is currently #2 in the nation for AIAN students. He also serves on the board of Portland Street Medicine, an organization dedicated to medical care of unhoused populations.

Lastly, Dr. Cloutier served for over 20 years as a member of OR2, a Federal Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT). He deployed to Hurricanes Rita, Sandy, and Irma.
