Memorial & Honorary Giving

When you make a gift in someone’s name, you’re weaving their story into the future of UVM.

Memorial vs. Honorary Gifts

In Memory Of

An in memory of gift is intended to remember someone who has passed away. It’s often chosen as a way to celebrate their life, values, or connection to UVM, while creating lasting impact in their name.

In Honor Of

An in honor of gift recognizes someone who is living—such as a mentor, loved one, faculty or staff member, or student. It’s a meaningful way to acknowledge an achievement, milestone, or the role they’ve played in your life.

Making a tribute gift is simple

You may give online, by mail, or by phone, whichever is most comfortable for you. When giving online, you can enter the honoree’s name and dedication details, and you may choose to notify family members or loved ones of your gift.

Physical Honor on Campus

You can also choose a physical commemorative item, such as planting a tree or installing a commemorative bench on campus. Creating something physical on campus is a profoundly thoughtful and enduring recognition piece that enriches campus with places of reflection and provides connection to UVM’s vast community and history.

Create a Memorial Fund

For some families and donors, a specific memorial fund is a meaningful way to ensure a loved one’s influence continues year after year. Named funds provide enduring support at UVM while honoring the values and passions that mattered most to them.
