Create a Physical Honor On Campus
a profoundly thoughtful and enduring recognition piece that enriches campus
How To Get Started
We are pleased to work with individuals who wish to establish a physical expression in honor of or in memory of an individual or a group of individuals, or to commemorate an event, such as a reunion year or the passing of a loved one.
Commemorative and memorial gifts are a profoundly thoughtful and enduring way to recognize a student, parent, faculty or staff member, or a group of individuals, such as a class year or an academic department. Such gifts also enrich the aesthetics of the University's campus landscape.
Commemorative or Memorial Tree
How it Works:
Trees are selected by the grounds manager, who will confirm locations available on campus and the varieties of trees that are appropriate. We work closely with you to select the most appropriate area on campus. The selection may be an existing tree on the campus or a new tree.
We also work with you to draft a brief but meaningful inscription for the plaque and works with UVM grounds to ensure design consistency and continuity.
Delivery and installation of the tree and associated plaque normally takes one month. Depending on the plant selection, installation time may go into the next season if the plant is not available at the nursery.
Your Contribution: $2,500 to the Honorary and Memorial Fund, which covers installation and maintenance of the tree.
Commemorative or Memorial Bench
How it Works: The bench site and style are selected by the grounds manager to conform to campus standards. We work with you to draft a brief but meaningful inscription for the plaque.
Delivery, inscription and installation of benches normally requires two months.
Your Contribution: $5,000 to the Honorary and Memorial Fund, which covers the installation and maintenance of the bench.
