Andrew Fanous, M.D.'11, FAANS, FCNS, is a board-certified neurosurgeon with Inova Health System whose special interests are in minimally invasive spine surgery and spine tumors surgery.
Dr. Fanous is originally from Alexandria, Egypt. He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in molecular biology, biochemistry and German literature from Middlebury College in Middlebury, Vermont. After earning his medical degree from the University of Vermont Larner College of Medicine, Dr. Fanous completed his residency in neurological surgery at the State University of New York at Buffalo. During residency, he earned multiple awards including the Best Research Award from the New York State Neurosurgical Society, the Community Service Award from the Association of American Medical Colleges and the Louis A. and Ruth Siegel Award for Excellence in Teaching. Dr. Fanous completed his fellowship in minimally invasive and complex spine surgery at the University of Miami, Florida.
At Inova Health System, Dr. Fanous received multiple accolades including the Distinguished Physician Leadership Award, the Community Engagement & Mentorship Award and the Best Resident Teacher Faculty Award. He is also the founder and director of Inova's Annual Spine Symposium. He has over 30 research publications, and is the first editor of the medical textbook -"Spine and Spinal Cord Tumors - Classification, Management and Treatment." Dr. Fanous has been recognized for his work as a Top Doctor by many local Northern Virginia and Washington D.C. metropolitan area organizations, as well as by many national outlets. He is a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society.
