Dr. Anne Marie Valente grew up in Rutland, Vermont, and graduated magna cum laude from Boston College before earning her medical degree at the University of Vermont College of Medicine. She completed residency training in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, followed by fellowships in Pediatric Cardiology and Adult Cardiovascular Disease, with advanced training in cardiac imaging at Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Valente is Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Division Chief of the Boston Adult Congenital Heart (BACH) Program. She established the BACH Scholars Program and developed professional development initiatives to foster collaboration and multigenerational mentorship.
Her research focuses on improving outcomes for adults with congenital heart disease, particularly those with repaired tetralogy of Fallot (TOF). She co-founded the international INDICATOR registry of TOF patients and co-chaired the 2020 Appropriate Use Criteria for Non-Invasive Multimodality Imaging in congenital heart disease. Dr. Valente has contributed to numerous guidelines from the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association, and the European Society of Cardiology. Since 2021, she has served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. She was awarded the Larner College of Medicine Early Achievement Award in 2011.
