Megan Camp `84

2025

Megan Camp is a nationally and internationally recognized leader in education for sustainability whose career has been devoted to fostering healthy communities, food systems, and ecosystems.

For more than four decades, she has been at the heart of Shelburne Farms' growth and impact, shaping it into a hub of learning and collaboration for educators from Vermont and far beyond.

As Executive Vice President and Program Director, Megan has guided the Farm's education initiatives, including the renowned Institute for Sustainable Schools and Vermont's pioneering Farm to School programs. Tireless in her commitment, she has advanced innovative curriculum development, inclusive teaching practices, and global partnerships that have influenced education policy, inspired thousands of educators, and promoted the long-term wellness of people and planet.

Megan designed her own major focused on changing the way teachers approach science education and graduated from UVM in 1984 with a degree in environmental studies.

Starting as a student intern at Shelburne Farms, she quickly rose to leadership positions. She has served on boards and councils across Vermont and beyond, including the UVM College of Agriculture and Life Sciences Board of Advisors, The Vermont Council on Rural Development, the Working Lands Enterprise Board, The Vermont Natural Resources Council, and the IUCN Commission on Education and Communication. Her close partnership with UVM has brought research into practice through projects in place-based education, sustainable agriculture, and conservation, helping to fulfill the University's land-grant mission.

Widely admired as a collaborator, innovator, and "global Vermonter," Megan's presence has shaped both the University and Vermont's communities, ensuring that Shelburne Farms remains a place where people come together to learn, connect, and create a sustainable future.

Since 1985, the Alumni Achievement Award has been awarded to University of Vermont alumni who are nationally and internationally recognized for outstanding contributions to their profession or life's work.
