David is a lifetime educator who spent more than 30 years as a biology teacher at Champlain Valley Union (CVU) high school in Hinesburg, Vermont.
Over the course of his career, David received many local, state, and national teaching awards including CVU Teacher of the Year, Presidential Award in Science Teaching, Vermont Teacher of the Year, National Science Teachers Association/ Shell Award for Innovation and Excellence in Science Teaching, the first-ever Vermont NEA Award for Teaching Excellence, Advanced Placement National Teacher of the Year, and the National American Star Award from the U.S. Department of Education.
More than the awards, however, he would say that his true reward was the thousands of students he helped to shape, and the hundreds of those who entered careers in science and medicine. In addition to his service in education, David has given tirelessly to his community as a member of the Shelburne United Methodist Church and on Boards of Directors of many charitable, professional, and educational organizations.
David and his wife, Diane '67, reside in South Burlington, Vermont and have three grown daughters who all hold degrees from UVM.
