Kerstin Lange's 2024 book “The Phantom Border,” has been endorsed by yet another beloved UVM faculty member, Bernd Heinrich, who wrote, "This book combines adventure, history, and a narrative of how people lived confronted with the post WWII environment in Germany. Lange explores consequences and lessons that continue to the present day. [The book] tackles the larger issues, the importance of home, and its offshoot into conservation biology and ethics. With verve and clarity, it serves a rich fare for a wide readership. It is a great read." After 17 years at Burton Snowboards, Ian Michael MacFarland has taken on a new role at Elevate Outdoor Collective as chief commercial officer. In his new role, he's responsible for the global commercial operations of many notable winter brands, like K2 and Volkl. He wrote when he was eight months into the new role and learning a lot every day.

On June 12, 2024, on the western fringes of Iceland, Maryann Carlson married Jason Fehlen. They write that, “as the elated couple spoke their vows, the grandiose waterfalls of Þórufoss cascaded trippingly like a bridal veil behind them. The auspicious event was witnessed by 29 guests, including fellow UVM alumni, Augusta MacPherson ’03 and Shauna Mulligan, plus a fervent frenzy of felicitations forwarded from countless loved ones around the world. The Nordic nuptials were officiated by Icelandic pop sensation, Bjarni Snæbjörnsson, who perfectly punctuated Maryann and Jason’s affinity for the theatrical. Other celebrity sightings included the persistent Midnight Sun, fields adorned with the restless purple sway of springtime lupines, and the howling Polar Easterlies, causing the tulle of Maryann’s millefeuille gown to billow dramatically with the wind like the Viking sails of yesteryear. When they are not travelling the world, the newlyweds reside in Chicago.” After six years based in Geneva working at the World Health Organization, Tova Reichel Tampe, Ph.D. launched Thrive Health Advisory, a consulting practice focused on helping companies and foundations integrate health equity and community impact into their sustainability and ESG strategies. She's also honored to serve on the board of The Samburu Project, which focuses on women’s empowerment through community-led access to clean water and health in northern Kenya. This work builds on more than two decades in global health systems and primary health care across Africa, Asia, the Pacific, and Europe. She writes, “UVM provided a foundation rooted in social justice that helped define my pathway toward a career dedicated to global health, women’s empowerment, and social impact, shaped in part by my studies in the Environmental Studies and Psychology programs. On the home front, life is full and lively with my three children — Leo, Naomi, and Ezra — who keep us grounded and laughing, with travel still very much part of our family rhythm.” Zach Zimmer and Billy Allen write to say they’ve set out to change the world with the best all-natural bar soap on the planet. They are offering Broken Wave Goods and invite all to learn more at BrokenWaveGoods.com and @brokenwavegoods.” See photos of the duo here.

Tyler Alexander G'07 has written, "If I Can Get Home This Fall: A Story of Love, Loss, and a Cause in the Civil War." It was published in September 2025 and centers around a remarkable collection of letters written by Dan Mason, a soldier from Glover, Vt. As an author, he spent a considerable amount of time in the book exploring how understandings of race, democracy, national identity, and patriotism shaped the narrative about the meaning of the war, then and since. He offers, "I think this story about an ordinary man and woman from the hills of northeastern Vermont  will resonate with readers, especially Vermonters, as we are in the midst of a struggle to ensure, as Lincoln said at Gettysburg, that government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth." Mary Bove and Ethan Lee '14 were married on the shores of Lake Champlain in October of 2025. The bride’s cousin, Jan Brassard- Smith '86, and the couple’s good friends, Kelly and Zach Benoit '14, Ian Adams '13, Erin Wysolmerski '15, and other UVM graduates attended the reception the day following the private ceremony. The bride’s mother (Joyce) stood for her late father, Stephen Bove '77. In February, JB Lanza was returning to Vermont and the Vermont Winter Swimming Festival, competing in a 25-meter pool cut from the ice on Lake Memphremagog as part of training for an upcoming ice mile on her fourth continent in Argentina as part of participation in the Ice7 Challenge, which requires completing an ice mile on all seven continents — defined as a continuous 1,609-meter swim in water 41°F or colder, wearing only a standard swimsuit, cap, and goggles. Joshua Adam Marczyk shares that he has begun a new role as global director for marketing for iconic American ski brands K2 and LINE.
