Madison Saltsburg (2003-2024), affectionately known as 'Madie' to her friends and family, was a well-respected member of UVM's ROTC community. She earned a three-year national ROTC scholarship and traveled north to pursue landscape design at UVM while training to serve as a U.S. Army Officer.
As a member of the Green Mountain Battalion, Madie quickly earned a position on the Ranger Challenge team, helping the team make GMB history by earning a spot at the prestigious Sandhurst competition. One of her proudest accomplishments was graduating from the Army Mountain Warfare School's Basic Military Mountaineering Course in summer 2023.
Madie gained an insatiable passion for rock climbing, hiking, backcountry skiing, and caving. What she loved most was sharing these experiences with those closest to her.
On March 9, 2024, all who knew Madie experienced a great loss with her passing in a backcountry skiing accident on Mt. Washington. Her family and friends established this fund to keep Madie's memory and spirit alive for years to come.
