H. David Reines, MD, FACS, FCCS, is professor emeritus and senior consultant in Surgery for both the University of Virginia School of Medicine and the George Washington University School of Medicine. David volunteers at the Library of Congress, on Inova Fairfax Hospital Quality Improvement Committee, and currently serves on two additional boards of advisors which include the Inova Health Systems Foundation and the Christian Medical College Foundation in Valore, India. He is the author of over 100 peer reviewed articles on sepsis, infections, trauma, surgical education, and surgical safety, and serves on three editorial boards. Dr. Reines came to Inova from Boston, where he had been Chair of Surgery. Prior to that, he was chief of Trauma/ Critical Care at Medical College of Virginia (now VCU) and Medical College of South Carolina.
Dr. Reines helped create the surgical residency program at Inova Fairfax. When VCU chose Inova Fairfax Hospital as its northern campus; Dr. Reines was appointed the surgery clerkship director.
He is a graduate of Cornell University (German History) and the University of Vermont College of Medicine, where he completed his residency. He was a fellow in Critical Care/Trauma at the University of Miami. He is married to NPR Legal Affairs Correspondent, Nina Totenberg.
