Mara R. Saule is Dean Emerita of UVM Libraries having served as Dean from 1999 until July 2019; for 9 of those years, she was also Chief Information Officer. She is currently a member of the UVM Retired Faculty and Administrative Officers (RFAO) Executive Board and represents retired faculty as senator on the Faculty Senate.
Saule continues to serve as a library and information systems consultant for several private and public entities, focusing on library space design, staffing assessment, and strategic planning. Most recently she served as resident library consultant and interim director at California Lutheran University. She has also served as consultant on planning initiatives in Peru, Qatar, Latvia, Lebanon, and as reaccreditation evaluator for the New England Commission of Higher Education at 14 U.S. higher education institutions.
Saule earned a master’s degree in library and information science from the University of California at Berkeley. She was married to the late Dan Archdeacon, professor of Mathematics at UVM, and has two grown sons, Talis (BA,’05) and Nicholas (MPA,’12).
