Dr. Marlene Tromp is the 28th president of the University of Vermont, having taken office on July 1, 2025. Prior to her role at UVM, Dr. Tromp served as president of Boise State University for six years, were she focused on academic excellence and research, increasing access for students from all backgrounds, creating partnerships with industry and nonprofits, integrating the university with the local community and economy, and building strong relationships with donors and alumni.
Dr. Tromp is a leader in higher education nationally, serving on the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities Board as well as on the U.S. Council on Competitiveness (a body focused on enhancing U.S. productivity and prosperity for all Americans). She has represented higher education at the international G7 Summit and has overseen global scale institutes and centers on genomics, the environment, microelectronics, community engagement, computing, and tech and the humanities and social sciences.
Before her time at Boise State, Dr. Tromp served as the campus provost and executive vice chancellor at the University of California at Santa Cruz, and dean and vice provost at Arizona State University.
She remains a dedicated scholar and is the author of several books and many articles on Victorian literature and culture and its relationship to our current cultural moment.
